Sensorineural hearing loss - Suppurative labyrinthitis Factor

Suppurative labyrinthitis

This may also be referred to as purulent labyrinthitis and is an inflammation of the labyrinth (a system of interconnecting canals in the inner ear) characterised by the formation of pus).  It is characterised by severe vertigo (giddiness) and nystagmus (an involuntary, rapid, rhythmic movement of the eyeball).  It may be secondary to acute otitis media or purulent meningitis.  Treatment for suppurative labyrinthitis includes labyrinthectomy for drainage of the inner ear, radical mastoidectomy and intravenous antibiotic therapy appropriate for meningitis.

If a veteran or member had suppurative labyrinthitis he or she would have needed significant medical attention at that time.

Preliminary questions [14407]

14735 there is some evidence that suppurative labyrinthitis may be a factor in the development or worsening of the condition under consideration.

14439 the veteran has suffered from suppurative labyrinthitis at some time.

14440 the veteran has suffered from suppurative labyrinthitis of side and site of the body at some time.

14441  the veteran has established the causal connection between the suppurative labyrinthitis and VEA service for sensorineural hearing loss.

14448 the veteran was suffering from suppurative labyrinthitis of side and site of the body within the 30 days immediately before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

14442   the veteran has established the causal connection between the suppurative labyrinthitis and VEA service for the clinical onset of sensorineural hearing loss.

14444  the veteran has established the causal connection between the suppurative labyrinthitis and operational service for the clinical onset of sensorineural hearing loss.

or

14445  the veteran has established the causal connection between the suppurative labyrinthitis and eligible service for the clinical onset of sensorineural hearing loss.

or

7334     the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.

7335     the condition under consideration permanently worsened.

14449 the veteran was suffering from suppurative labyrinthitis of side and site of the body within the 30 days immediately before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

14443   the veteran has established the causal connection between the suppurative labyrinthitis and VEA service for the clinical worsening of sensorineural hearing loss.

14446  the veteran has established the causal connection between the suppurative labyrinthitis and operational service for the clinical worsening of sensorineural hearing loss.

or

14447  the veteran has established the causal connection between the suppurative labyrinthitis and eligible service for the clinical worsening of sensorineural hearing loss.

Clinical onset and operational service [14444]

14450  the suppurative labyrinthitis of side and site of the body is causally related to operational service.

Clinical onset and eligible service [14445]

14451  the suppurative labyrinthitis of side and site of the body is causally related to eligible service.

Clinical worsening and operational service [14446]

14450  the suppurative labyrinthitis of side and site of the body is causally related to operational service.

14452 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of operational service to which the suppurative labyrinthitis of side and site of the body is causally related.

Clinical worsening and eligible service [14447]

14451  the suppurative labyrinthitis of side and site of the body is causally related to eligible service.

14453 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of eligible service to which the suppurative labyrinthitis of side and site of the body is causally related.
