Sensorineural hearing loss - Hyperviscosity syndrome Factor

Hyperviscosity syndrome means suffering from a blood disorder causing a significant increase in the viscous properties of the blood, such as Waldenstrom's macroglobulinaemia, attracting ICD code 273.3.  Such conditions are very uncommon. Manifestations of the hyperviscosity syndrome include fatigue, weakness, skin and mucosal bleeding, visual disturbances, headache and a variety of other changing neurologic manifestations.  It can be diagnosed by the findings of marked retinal venous engorgement and localised narrowing that gives the veins a sausage like appearance.  Retinal haemorrhages, exudates, microaneurysms and papilloedema indicate far advanced stages.

If a veteran or member was suffering from a hyperviscosity syndrome he or she would have needed significant medical attention at some time.

Preliminary questions [14413]

14741 there is some evidence that a hyperviscosity syndrome may be a factor in the development or worsening of the condition under consideration.

14513 the veteran has suffered from a hyperviscosity syndrome at some time.

14514  the hyperviscosity syndrome is an illness or injury which is identifiable. [Default true]

14515  the veteran has established the causal connection between the hyperviscosity syndrome and VEA service for sensorineural hearing loss.

14522 the veteran suffered from the identified illness or injury, a hyperviscosity syndrome, within the 30 days immediately before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

14516   the veteran has established the causal connection between the hyperviscosity syndrome and VEA service for the clinical onset of sensorineural hearing loss.

14518  the veteran has established the causal connection between the hyperviscosity syndrome and operational service for the clinical onset of sensorineural hearing loss.

or

14519  the veteran has established the causal connection between the hyperviscosity syndrome and eligible service for the clinical onset of sensorineural hearing loss.

or

7334     the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.

7335     the condition under consideration permanently worsened.

14523 the veteran suffered from the identified illness or injury, a hyperviscosity syndrome, within the 30 days immediately before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

14517   the veteran has established the causal connection between the hyperviscosity syndrome and VEA service for the clinical worsening of sensorineural hearing loss.

14520  the veteran has established the causal connection between the hyperviscosity syndrome and operational service for the clinical worsening of sensorineural hearing loss.

or

14521  the veteran has established the causal connection between the hyperviscosity syndrome and eligible service for the clinical worsening of sensorineural hearing loss.

Clinical onset and operational service [14518]

14524  the identified illness or injury, a hyperviscosity syndrome, is causally related to operational service.

Clinical onset and eligible service [14519]

14525  the identified illness or injury, a hyperviscosity syndrome, is causally related to eligible service.

Clinical worsening and operational service [14520]

14524  the identified illness or injury, a hyperviscosity syndrome, is causally related to operational service.

14526 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of operational service to which the identified illness or injury, a hyperviscosity syndrome, is causally related.

Clinical worsening and eligible service [14521]

14525  the identified illness or injury, a hyperviscosity syndrome, is causally related to eligible service.

14527 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of eligible service to which the identified illness or injury, a hyperviscosity syndrome, is causally related.
