Sensorineural hearing loss - Bacterial meningitis Factor

The RMA has defined bacterial meningitis as "inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord caused by bacteria."  A prodromal (premonitory) respiratory illness or sore throat often precedes the fever, headache, stiff neck and vomiting that characterise bacterial meningitis.  Adults may become desperately ill within 24 hours - changes in consciousness progress through irritability, confusion, drowsiness, stupor and coma.

Bacterial meningitis can be lethal and if a veteran or member had this condition he or she would have needed significant medical attention at that time.

Preliminary questions [14415]

14743 there is some evidence that bacterial meningitis may be a factor in the development or worsening of the condition under consideration.

12621 the veteran has had bacterial meningitis at some time.

16734 the bacterial meningitis is an illness or injury which is identifiable.

14596  the veteran has established the causal connection between the bacterial meningitis and VEA service for sensorineural hearing loss.

14603 the veteran suffered from the identified illness or injury, a type of bacterial meningitis, before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

14597   the veteran has established the causal connection between the bacterial meningitis and VEA service for the clinical onset of sensorineural hearing loss.

14599  the veteran has established the causal connection between the bacterial meningitis and operational service for the clinical onset of sensorineural hearing loss.

or

14600  the veteran has established the causal connection between the bacterial meningitis and eligible service for the clinical onset of sensorineural hearing loss.

or

7334     the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.

7335     the condition under consideration permanently worsened.

14604 the veteran suffered from the identified illness or injury, a type of bacterial meningitis, before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

14598   the veteran has established the causal connection between the bacterial meningitis and VEA service for the clinical worsening of sensorineural hearing loss.

14601  the veteran has established the causal connection between the bacterial meningitis and operational service for the clinical worsening of sensorineural hearing loss.

or

14602  the veteran has established the causal connection between the bacterial meningitis and eligible service for the clinical worsening of sensorineural hearing loss.

Clinical onset and operational service [14599]

12627  the identified illness or injury, a type of bacterial meningitis, is causally related to operational service.

Clinical onset and eligible service [14600]

12628  the identified illness or injury, a type of bacterial meningitis, is causally related to eligible service.

Clinical worsening and operational service [14601]

12627  the identified illness or injury, a type of bacterial meningitis, is causally related to operational service.

14605 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of operational service to which the identified illness or injury, a type of bacterial meningitis, is causally related.

Clinical worsening and eligible service [14602]

12628  the identified illness or injury, a type of bacterial meningitis, is causally related to eligible service.

14606 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of eligible service to which the identified illness or injury, a type of bacterial meningitis, is causally related.
