Acquired Cataract F023
Factors in CCPS as at 20 August 2008 (F023)
- Uveitis or iridocyclitis of the affected eye
Date amended:
Acquired cataract - Uveitis or iridocyclitis of the affected eye Factor
The RMA has not defined either of these terms. However, medical advice indicates that uveitis or iridocyclitis of the eye would be diagnosed by an ophthalmologist.
General information
Uveitis is an inflammation (swelling and inflammation) of the uvea. The uvea is the layer of the eye between the sclera and the retina. This layer includes the iris, ciliary body and the choroid.
Iridocyclitis is an inflammation of the iris (the coloured part of the eye) and of the ciliary body (muscles and tissue involved in focusing the eye). This condition is also called "anterior uveitis" and "iritis".
