Date amended:
Acquired cataract - Electrical injury Factor
Establishing Onset
This type of injury is not always significant and does not always result in obvious symptoms, so the full range of symptoms may not have presented until some days later, and therefore may have gone unreported. If the injury was significant the event and any noticeable conditions resulting from it should be well documented by a medical officer.
However, doctors' notes and hospitals' records may have been destroyed or can no longer be obtained. If this is the case, the person's statement that the electrical injury and any resultant conditions occurred at a particular time should generally be accepted, providing that this is not negated by other evidence. Seek medical advice if the evidence suggests the condition may have resulted from other causes, or could have been present prior to the electrical injury.

Preliminary questions [30924]
30986 there is some evidence that an electrical injury may be a factor in the development or worsening of the condition under consideration.
30987 the veteran has had an electrical injury at some time.
30988 the veteran has established the causal connection between the electrical injury and VEA service for acquired cataract.
30989 the veteran has established the causal connection between the electrical injury and VEA service for the clinical onset of acquired cataract.
30991 the veteran has established the causal connection between the electrical injury and operational service for the clinical onset of acquired cataract.
or
30992 the veteran has established the causal connection between the electrical injury and eligible service for the clinical onset of acquired cataract.
or
7334 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.
7335 the condition under consideration permanently worsened.
30990 the veteran has established the causal connection between the electrical injury and VEA service for the clinical worsening of acquired cataract.
30993 the veteran has established the causal connection between the electrical injury and operational service for the clinical worsening of acquired cataract.
or
30994 the veteran has established the causal connection between the electrical injury and eligible service for the clinical worsening of acquired cataract.
Clinical onset and operational service [30991]
30997 on operational service, the veteran had an electrical injury.
30998 on operational service, the veteran had the electrical injury within the five years before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.
31005 the electrical injury within the five years before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration, on operational service, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
or
31009 the electrical injury was due to an illness or injury which is identifiable.
31010 as a consequence of the identified illness or injury, the veteran had the electrical injury within the five years before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.
31012 the identified illness or injury which caused the electrical injury is causally related to operational service.
Clinical onset and eligible service [30992]
31001 on eligible service, the veteran had an electrical injury.
31002 as a causal result of eligible service, the veteran had the electrical injury.
31003 as a causal result of eligible service, the veteran had the electrical injury within the five years before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.
31006 the electrical injury within the five years before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration, on eligible service, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
or
31009 the electrical injury was due to an illness or injury which is identifiable.
31010 as a consequence of the identified illness or injury, the veteran had the electrical injury within the five years before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.
31013 the identified illness or injury which caused the electrical injury is causally related to eligible service.
Clinical worsening and operational service [30993]
30997 on operational service, the veteran had an electrical injury.
30999 as a causal result of operational service, the veteran had the electrical injury.
31000 as a causal result of operational service, the veteran had the electrical injury within the five years before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.
31007 the electrical injury within the five years before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration, on operational service, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
or
31009 the electrical injury was due to an illness or injury which is identifiable.
31011 as a consequence of the identified illness or injury, the veteran had the electrical injury within the five years before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.
31012 the identified illness or injury which caused the electrical injury is causally related to operational service.
31014 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of operational service to which the identified illness or injury, which caused the electrical injury, is causally related.
Clinical worsening and eligible service [30994]
31001 on eligible service, the veteran had an electrical injury.
31002 as a causal result of eligible service, the veteran had the electrical injury.
31004 as a causal result of eligible service, the veteran had the electrical injury within the five years before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.
31008 the electrical injury within the five years before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration, on eligible service, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
