Acquired cataract - Treatment with oral or topical or inhalational corticosteroids Factor

Treatment with oral or topical or inhalational corticosteroids: "Oral" means taken by mouth, "topical" means the local application of creams or drops, and "inhalational" means inhaled such as that which occurs when using a puffer.

Corticosteroids

The dosage and duration of treatment requirements are different for the "reasonable hypothesis" Statements of Principles (SOP) and the "balance of probabilities" SOP.

  •  Treatment with oral or topical or inhalational corticosteroids for reasonable hypothesis cases
  •  Treatment with oral or topical or inhalational corticosteroids for balance of probabilities cases

Preliminary questions [30902]

30903 there is some evidence that treatment with corticosteroids may be a factor in the development or worsening of the condition under consideration.

30904 the veteran has been treated with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the reasonable hypothesis Statement of Principles for acquired cataract at some time.

30905 the treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the reasonable hypothesis Statement of Principles for acquired cataract was materially contributed to by treatment of an illness or injury which is identifiable.

30906  the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury for which treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids was given and VEA service for acquired cataract.

30907   the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury for which treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids was given and VEA service for the clinical onset of acquired cataract.

30910  the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury for which treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids was given and eligible service for the clinical onset of acquired cataract.

or

30909  the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury for which treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids was given and operational service for the clinical onset of acquired cataract.

or

7334     the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.

7335     the condition under consideration permanently worsened.

30908   the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury for which treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids was given and VEA service for the clinical worsening of acquired cataract.

30912  the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury for which treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids was given and eligible service for the clinical worsening of acquired cataract.

or

30911  the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury for which treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids was given and operational service for the clinical worsening of acquired cataract.

Clinical onset and operational service [30909]

30914 the identified illness or injury made a material contribution to the veteran's treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the reasonable hypothesis Statement of Principles for acquired cataract within the 10 years before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

30919  the identified illness or injury which made a material contribution to the veteran's treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the reasonable hypothesis Statement of Principles for acquired cataract is causally related to operational service.

Clinical onset and eligible service [30910]

34288 the veteran has been treated with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the balance of probabilities Statement of Principles for acquired cataract at some time.

30916 the identified illness or injury made a material contribution to the veteran's treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the balance of probabilities Statement of Principles for acquired cataract.

30917 the identified illness or injury made a material contribution to the veteran's treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the balance of probabilities Statement of Principles for acquired cataract within the 10 years before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

30921  the identified illness or injury which made a material contribution to the veteran's treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the balance of probabilities Statement of Principles for acquired cataract is causally related to eligible service.

Clinical worsening and operational service [30911]

30915 the identified illness or injury made a material contribution to the veteran's treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the reasonable hypothesis Statement of Principles for acquired cataract after the clinical onset of the condition under consideration and within the 10 years before its clinical worsening.

30919  the identified illness or injury which made a material contribution to the veteran's treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the reasonable hypothesis Statement of Principles for acquired cataract is causally related to operational service.

31039 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of operational service to which the identified illness or injury that materially contributed to the veteran's treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the reasonable hypothesis Statement of Principles for acquired cataract is causally related.

Clinical worsening and eligible service [30912]

34288 the veteran has been treated with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the balance of probabilities Statement of Principles for acquired cataract at some time.

30916 the identified illness or injury made a material contribution to the veteran's treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the balance of probabilities Statement of Principles for acquired cataract.

30918 the identified illness or injury made a material contribution to the veteran's treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the balance of probabilities Statement of Principles for acquired cataract after the clinical onset of the condition under consideration and within the 10 years before its clinical worsening.

30921  the identified illness or injury which made a material contribution to the veteran's treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the balance of probabilities Statement of Principles for acquired cataract is causally related to eligible service.

31040 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of eligible service to which the identified illness or injury that materially contributed to the veteran's treatment with oral, topical or inhalational corticosteroids as specified in the balance of probabilities Statement of Principles for acquired cataract is causally related.
