Osteoarthritis - Internal derangement of the knee Factor

This contention only applies to osteoarthritis of a knee joint.

General information

Internal derangement of the knee is a long term condition and should not be confused with acute sprain or acute strains which are of short duration. Internal derangement of the knee is a diagnostic term used to encompass chronic meniscal and ligament injuries, alone or in combination. Diagnosis is usually made by arthroscopy.Manifestations include pain, locking and giving way of the knee joint.

Establishing onset

If the person had internal derangement of the knee he or she would have needed significant medical attention at some time – usually at the time of the original injury. Such medical treatment would normally be recorded in doctors' notes, hospital records or service medical records. However, if these records have been destroyed or can no longer be obtained and there is a reliable history of internal derangement of the knee at a particular time, this generally will be accepted, unless there is contradictory evidence. Obtain medical advice if it is unclear whether the claimed symptoms and treatment at that time can be attributed to internal derangement of the knee rather than to some other condition.

26006  the veteran has claimed osteoarthritis of a relevant joint or joints for internal derangement of the knee.

or

26008   the veteran has claimed osteoarthritis of an unspecified relevant joint or joints for internal derangement of the knee.

4061     the veteran has osteoarthritis of one or both knees.

25604 the veteran has had internal derangement of a knee at some time.

25605 the veteran has had internal derangement of side and site of the body at some time.

25607  the veteran has established the causal connection between internal derangement of a knee and VEA service for osteoarthritis.

25608 the veteran had internal derangement of side and site of the body before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

25609   the veteran has established the causal connection between internal derangement of a knee and VEA service for the clinical onset of osteoarthritis.

25612  the veteran has established the causal connection between internal derangement of a knee and operational service for the clinical onset of osteoarthritis.

or

25613  the veteran has established the causal connection between internal derangement of a knee and eligible service for the clinical onset of osteoarthritis.

or

7334     the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.

7335     the condition under consideration permanently worsened.

25610 the veteran had internal derangement of side and site of the body before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

25611   the veteran has established the causal connection between internal derangement of a knee and VEA service for the clinical worsening of osteoarthritis.

25614  the veteran has established the causal connection between internal derangement of a knee and operational service for the clinical worsening of osteoarthritis.

or

25615  the veteran has established the causal connection between internal derangement of a knee and eligible service for the clinical worsening of osteoarthritis.

Clinical onset and operational service [25612]

25616  the internal derangement of side and site of the body is causally related to operational service.

Clinical onset and eligible service [25613]

25617  the internal derangement of side and site of the body is causally related to eligible service.

Clinical worsening and operational service [25614]

25616  the internal derangement of side and site of the body is causally related to operational service.

25618 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of operational service to which internal derangement of side and site of the body is causally related.

Clinical worsening and eligible service [25615]

25617  the internal derangement of side and site of the body is causally related to eligible service.

25619 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of eligible service to which internal derangement of side and site of the body is causally related.
