Internal derangement of the knee
Osteoarthritis - Internal derangement of the knee Factor
This contention only applies to osteoarthritis of a knee joint.
General information
Internal derangement of the knee is a long term condition and should not be confused with acute sprain or acute strains which are of short duration. Internal derangement of the knee is a diagnostic term used to encompass chronic meniscal and ligament injuries, alone or in combination. Diagnosis is usually made by arthroscopy.Manifestations include pain, locking and giving way of the knee joint.
Establishing onset
If the person had internal derangement of the knee he or she would have needed significant medical attention at some time – usually at the time of the original injury. Such medical treatment would normally be recorded in doctors' notes, hospital records or service medical records. However, if these records have been destroyed or can no longer be obtained and there is a reliable history of internal derangement of the knee at a particular time, this generally will be accepted, unless there is contradictory evidence. Obtain medical advice if it is unclear whether the claimed symptoms and treatment at that time can be attributed to internal derangement of the knee rather than to some other condition.
