Inguinal hernia - Increased intra-abdominal pressure due to AGSM Factor

RMA Definition

The RMA defines “anti-G straining manoeuvre (AGSM)” as meaning “maximum muscle contraction of all major muscles of the body, in combination with a forced expiration against a closed or partially closed glottis, that increases eye-level arterial blood pressure. This manoeuvre is sometimes referred to as an M-1 or L-1 manoeuvre, and is used by air-crew of high performance aircraft to increase their G tolerance during aerial combat manoeuvres.”

Preliminary questions [35008]

35077 there is some evidence that increased intra-abdominal pressure due to AGSM may be a factor in the development or worsening of the condition under consideration.

35078  the veteran has established the causal connection between the increased intra-abdominal pressure due to AGSM and VEA service for inguinal hernia.

35079   the veteran has established the causal connection between the increased intra-abdominal pressure due to AGSM and VEA service for the clinical onset of inguinal hernia.

35081  the veteran has established the causal connection between the increased intra-abdominal pressure due to AGSM and operational service for the clinical onset of inguinal hernia.

or

35082  the veteran has established the causal connection between the increased intra-abdominal pressure due to AGSM and eligible service for the clinical onset of inguinal hernia.

or

7334     the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.

7335     the condition under consideration permanently worsened.

35080   the veteran has established the causal connection between the increased intra-abdominal pressure due to AGSM and VEA service for the clinical worsening of inguinal hernia.

35083  the veteran has established the causal connection between the increased intra-abdominal pressure due to AGSM and operational service for the clinical worsening of inguinal hernia.

or

35084  the veteran has established the causal connection between the increased intra-abdominal pressure due to AGSM and eligible service for the clinical worsening of inguinal hernia.

Clinical onset and operational service [35081]

35085 the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the thirty days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

35089 on operational service, the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the thirty days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

35098 the veteran's performance of the anti-G straining manoeuvre on operational service, which resulted in the presence of increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the thirty days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.

Clinical onset and eligible service [35082]

35087 the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the three days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

35090 on eligible service, the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the three days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

35091 as a causal result of eligible service, the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the three days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

35099 the veteran's performance of the anti-G straining manoeuvre on eligible service, which resulted in the presence of increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the three days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.

Clinical worsening and operational service [35083]

35086 the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the thirty days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

35092 on operational service, the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the thirty days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

35093 as a causal result of operational service, the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the thirty days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

35096 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred before the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre on operational service, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure.

35100 the veteran's performance of the anti-G straining manoeuvre on operational service, which resulted in the presence of increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the thirty days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.

Clinical worsening and eligible service [35084]

35088 the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the three days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

35094 on eligible service, the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the three days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

35095 as a causal result of eligible service, the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the three days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

35097 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred before the veteran performed the anti-G straining manoeuvre on eligible service, which resulted in increased intra-abdominal pressure.

35101 the veteran's performance of the anti-G straining manoeuvre on eligible service, which resulted in the presence of increased intra-abdominal pressure, within the three days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
