VETERANS' CHILDREN EDUCATION SCHEME (VCES) - RATES OF EDUCATION ALLOWANCE FOR 1996

The purpose of this instruction is to advise the increased rates of education allowances to be paid under the VCES in 1996.

2.The increased rates are set out at Attachment A and are effective from the first payday in January 1996.  These figures correspond to the 1996 rates for AUSTUDY and Assistance to Isolated Children as determined by the Department of Employment, Education and Training (DEET).

3.The education allowances for primary school students and secondary students who are under sixteen and living at home are indexed annually by reference to the Consumer Price Index.

4.Education allowance payable to students aged sixteen years and over is increased annually and aligned to the maximum rates payable under AUSTUDY.  Education allowance payable to children under sixteen living away from home is aligned with the rate payable to children under the Assistance to Isolated Children.
