DECLARATIONS OF HAZARDOUS SERVICE AND PEACEKEEPING FORCES UNDER THE VETERANS' ENTITLEMENTS ACT 1986.

Purpose

The purpose of this Departmental Instruction is to advise details of hazardous service and peacekeeping forces under the Veterans' Entitlements Act 1986.

Background

2.  Determinations of Hazardous Service are signed by the Minister for Defence Science and Personnel and are not listed in the VEA.  Section 120(7)(b) of the VEA refers.

3.  All Peacekeeping Forces prior to the introduction of the VEA are described in column 1 of Schedule 3 of the VEA.  Post VEA Peacekeeping Forces are designated by notice published in the Gazette.


Attachments

4.  Attachment A summarises the Declarations of Hazardous Service and includes copies of determinations signed by the Minister for Defence Science and Personnel.

5.  Attachment B lists Peacekeeping Forces after 1986 and includes copies of the notices signed by the Minister of State for Veterans' Affairs.

Future Action

6.  CCPS will be changed to reflect information contained in the Attachments.

Afghanistan - service with the United Nations Office for Co-ordinating Assistance to Afghanistan (UNOCA) or the United Nations Mine Clearance Training Team (UNMCTT) in Afghanistan.

Cambodia - service in the area comprising Cambodia and the areas in Laos and Thailand that are not more than 50 kilometres from the border with Cambodia.
