Rotator Cuff Syndrome - Repetitive or sustained activities of the affected shoulder Factor

This term is not defined by the RMA although the SOP factor specifies that the shoulder on the affected side must be abducted or flexed by at least 60 degrees.  Abduction of the shoulder occurs when the arm is raised to the side, with 60 degrees achieved when the elbow is more than midway between the waist and shoulder:  a military salute would meet this description.  Flexion of the shoulder refers to forward motion arm-raising, such as would occur when marching.  Some occupations where abduction and flexion of the shoulder to the required level is common include motor mechanic (working in a pit underneath a car), rock blaster trimming tunnel roofs, painter, physical training instructor, a shipyard welder and a plate worker.  Information about the nature and scope of various service occupations is contained in Physical requirements, duties, and workplace hazards of specific military occupations

24794  the veteran has established the causal connection between repetitive or sustained activities of the affected shoulder and eligible service for the clinical worsening of rotator cuff syndrome.

Clinical onset and operational service [24791]

24800 the veteran performed repetitive or sustained activities where side and site of the body is abducted or flexed by at least 60 degrees for at least 80 hours within a period of 120 consecutive days which ended within the 30 days immediately before the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome of side and site of the body.

24801 operational service made a material contribution to the veteran's performance of repetitive or sustained activities where side and site of the body is abducted or flexed by at least 60 degrees for at least 80 hours within a period of 120 consecutive days which ended within the 30 days immediately before the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome of side and site of the body.

Clinical onset and eligible service [24792]

24804 the veteran performed repetitive or sustained activities where side and site of the body is abducted or flexed by at least 60 degrees for at least 160 hours within a period of 210 consecutive days which ended within the 30 days immediately before the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome of side and site of the body.

24805 eligible service made a material contribution to the veteran's performance of repetitive or sustained activities where side and site of the body is abducted or flexed by at least 60 degrees for at least 160 hours within a period of 210 consecutive days which ended within the 30 days immediately before the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome of side and site of the body.

Clinical worsening and operational service [24793]

24806 the veteran performed repetitive or sustained activities where side and site of the body is abducted or flexed by at least 60 degrees for at least 80 hours within a period of 120 consecutive days which ended within the 30 days immediately before the clinical worsening of rotator cuff syndrome of side and site of the body.

34216 the 120 day period, during which the veteran performed repetitive or sustained activities where side and site of the body is abducted or flexed by at least 60 degrees for at least 80 hours, commenced after the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome of side and site of the body.

24807 operational service made a material contribution to the veteran's performance of repetitive or sustained activities where side and site of the body is abducted or flexed by at least 60 degrees for at least 80 hours within a period of 120 consecutive days which ended within the 30 days immediately before the clinical worsening of rotator cuff syndrome of side and site of the body.

Clinical worsening and eligible service [24794]

24808 the veteran performed repetitive or sustained activities where side and site of the body is abducted or flexed by at least 60 degrees for at least 160 hours within a period of 210 consecutive days which ended within the 30 days immediately before the clinical worsening of rotator cuff syndrome of side and site of the body.

34217 the 210 day period, during which the veteran performed repetitive or sustained activities where side and site of the body is abducted or flexed by at least 60 degrees for at least 160 hours, commenced after the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome of side and site of the body.

24809 eligible service made a material contribution to the veteran's performance of repetitive or sustained activities where side and site of the body is abducted or flexed by at least 60 degrees for at least 160 hours within a period of 210 consecutive days which ended within the 30 days immediately before the clinical worsening of rotator cuff syndrome of side and site of the body.
