Rotator Cuff Syndrome - Anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space Factor

The RMA defines this term to mean 'an acquired reduction in the space between the acromion and the upper end of the humerus.  Causes would include:

  1. malunited fractures of the acromion, clavicle or greater tuberosity;  or
  2. osteophytes or tumours projecting into the subacromial space;  or
  3. sutures, pins, or wires from previous surgery.'
Establishing the presence of anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space

The presence of an acquired anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space must be confirmed by a medical officer (LMO, DMO or specialist).  The acquired reduction would generally be visible on X-rays, CT scans or ultrasound investigations of the shoulder region.  Such investigations would usually be undertaken in response to a specific trauma or clinical manifestations.  Seek medical advice if it appears the veteran may have such a defect.

Preliminary questions [24827]

24828 there is some evidence that anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space may be a factor in the development or worsening of the condition under consideration.

24829 the veteran has had anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space at some time.

24907 the veteran has had anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space of side and site of the body at some time.

24839 the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space of side and site of the body was due to an illness or injury which is identifiable.

24830  the veteran has established the causal connection between the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space and VEA service for rotator cuff syndrome.

24837 the veteran had anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space of side and site of the body, as a consequence of the identified illness or injury, at the time of the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

24831   the veteran has established the causal connection between the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space and VEA service for the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome.

24833  the veteran has established the causal connection between the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space and operational service for the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome.

or

24834  the veteran has established the causal connection between the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space and eligible service for the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome.

or

7334     the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.

7335     the condition under consideration permanently worsened.

24838 the veteran had anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space of side and site of the body, as a consequence of the identified illness or injury, at the time of the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

24832   the veteran has established the causal connection between the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space and VEA service for the clinical worsening of rotator cuff syndrome.

24835  the veteran has established the causal connection between the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space and operational service for the clinical worsening of rotator cuff syndrome.

or

24836  the veteran has established the causal connection between the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space and eligible service for the clinical worsening of rotator cuff syndrome.

Clinical onset and operational service [24833]

24840  the identified illness or injury which caused the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space of side and site of the body is causally related to operational service.

Clinical onset and eligible service [24834]

24841  the identified illness or injury which caused the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space of side and site of the body is causally related to eligible service.

Clinical worsening and operational service [24835]

24840  the identified illness or injury which caused the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space of side and site of the body is causally related to operational service.

24860 the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome of side and site of the body occurred prior to that part of operational service to which the identified illness or injury that caused the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space of side and site of the body is causally related.

Clinical worsening and eligible service [24836]

24841  the identified illness or injury which caused the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space of side and site of the body is causally related to eligible service.

24861 the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome of side and site of the body occurred prior to that part of eligible service to which the identified illness or injury that caused the anatomical narrowing of the subacromial space of side and site of the body is causally related.
