BRITISH PENSIONS - CEASE ISSUE OF APPEAL FORMS

The British War Pensions Directorate has varied the instructions concerning appeals contained in Chapter 13 of the "Memorandum for the Guidance of the Department's Overseas Paying Agents".

Under new procedures, prior to the formal lodgement of an appeal, the Directorate will carry out a review of the decision in question. The full appeals process can thus be avoided if the review leads to the amendment of the decision to the satisfaction of the pensioner.

Therefore, effective immediately, this Department is instructed to cease issuing appeal forms if a British pensioner is dissatisfied with a decision of the British authorities.  Instead, the War Pensions Directorate, Norcross, Blackpool FY5 3TA, ENGLAND is to be notified by airmail of the pensioner's intention as set out in paragraphs 1981,1987,1989 or 2044 of the "Memorandum".

The Directorate will then take review action before issuing appeals forms via this Department, if that is appropriate.
