Sinusitis F039
Rulebase for sinusitis 18
- A muco-ciliary transport abnormality
Date amended:
Sinusitis - Muco-ciliary transport abnormality Factor
The RMA has defined muco-ciliary transport abnormality as "one of several hereditary disorders characterised by abnormal composition and function of the mucus and cilia of the epithelial cells, including Kartagener's syndrome, Cystic fibrosis, Young's syndrome and the Immotile-Cilia syndrome. Cilia are minute hairlike structures projecting from the surface of certain cells. They move in a rhythmic fashion which serves to move fluid or mucous films over the surface of the cell.
If a veteran or member had a muco-ciliary transport abnormality he or she would have needed significant medical attention at some time. Such medical treatment would normally be recorded in doctors' notes and/or hospital records. However, these records may have been destroyed or can no longer be obtained. Therefore, if there is a reliable history of appropriate medical treatment at a particular time, this generally will be accepted, unless there is contradictory evidence. Seek medical advice if it is unclear whether the claimed symptoms and treatment at that time can be attributed to a muco-ciliary transport abnormality rather than to some other condition.

13259 the veteran has suffered from a muco-ciliary transport abnormality at some time.
13260 muco-ciliary transport abnormality means one of several hereditary disorders characterised by abnormal composition and function of the mucus and cilia of the epithelial cells, including Kartagener's syndrome, cystic fibrosis, Young's syndrome and the Immotile-Cilia syndrome.
13261 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a muco-ciliary transport abnormality, and VEA service for chronic sinusitis.
13268 the veteran suffered from the identified illness or injury, a muco-ciliary transport abnormality, at the time of the clinical onset of chronic sinusitis.
13262 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a muco-ciliary transport abnormality, and VEA service for the clinical onset of chronic sinusitis.
13264 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a muco-ciliary transport abnormality, and operational service for the clinical onset of chronic sinusitis.
or
13265 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a muco-ciliary transport abnormality, and eligible service for the clinical onset of chronic sinusitis.
or
7334 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.
7335 the condition under consideration permanently worsened.
13269 the veteran suffered from the identified illness or injury, a muco-ciliary transport abnormality, at the time of the clinical worsening of chronic sinusitis.
13263 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a muco-ciliary transport abnormality, and VEA service for the clinical worsening of chronic sinusitis.
13266 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a muco-ciliary transport abnormality, and operational service for the clinical worsening of chronic sinusitis.
or
13267 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a muco-ciliary transport abnormality, and eligible service for the clinical worsening of chronic sinusitis.
CLINICAL ONSET AND OPERATIONAL SERVICE [13264]

13271 the identified illness or injury, a muco-ciliary transport abnormality, is causally related to eligible service.
13273 the clinical onset of chronic sinusitis occurred prior to that part of eligible service to which the identified illness or injury, a muco-ciliary transport abnormality, is causally related.
