Plantar fasciitis - Wearing inappropriate footwear Factor

The RMA defines inappropriate footwear to mean 'footwear that results in excess pronation'.  Excess pronation in the foot relates to the turning of the sole outwards with the lateral (outside) margin of the foot elevated.  Excess pronation is likely to occur when the shoes worn provide inadequate support to feet, including heels and arches, for the activities undertaken.  This scenario may occur if wearing faulty or worn out shoes;  or where service personnel, such as members of the SAS are required to run for extended periods in service boots.  Since late 2000, service boots have been custom-fitted;  and since at least 1990, commercial footwear (sports shoes) have been worn by the military when engaged in formal physical exercise and training.

37794  the veteran has worn inappropriate footwear during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body at some time.

37787  the veteran has established the causal connection between wearing inappropriate footwear and VEA service for plantar fasciitis.

37795 the veteran wore inappropriate footwear during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

37788   the veteran has established the causal connection between wearing inappropriate footwear and VEA service for the clinical onset of plantar fasciitis.

37790  the veteran has established the causal connection between wearing inappropriate footwear and operational service for the clinical onset of plantar fasciitis.

or

37791  the veteran has established the causal connection between wearing inappropriate footwear and eligible service for the clinical onset of plantar fasciitis.

or

7334     the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.

7335     the condition under consideration permanently worsened.

37796 the veteran wore inappropriate footwear during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

37789   the veteran has established the causal connection between wearing inappropriate footwear and VEA service for the clinical worsening of plantar fasciitis.

37792  the veteran has established the causal connection between wearing inappropriate footwear and operational service for the clinical worsening of plantar fasciitis.

or

37793  the veteran has established the causal connection between wearing inappropriate footwear and eligible service for the clinical worsening of plantar fasciitis.

Clinical onset and operational service [37790]

37797 on operational service, the veteran wore inappropriate footwear during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

37893 as a causal result of operational service, the veteran wore inappropriate footwear during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

37804 the veteran's wearing of inappropriate footwear on operational service during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.

Clinical onset and eligible service [37791]

37798 on eligible service, the veteran wore inappropriate footwear during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

37799 as a causal result of eligible service, the veteran wore inappropriate footwear during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

37805 the veteran's wearing of inappropriate footwear on eligible service during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.

Clinical worsening and operational service [37792]

37800 on operational service, the veteran wore inappropriate footwear during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

37801 as a causal result of operational service, the veteran wore inappropriate footwear during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

37806 the veteran's wearing of inappropriate footwear on operational service during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.

Clinical worsening and eligible service [37793]

37802 on eligible service, the veteran wore inappropriate footwear during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

37803 as a causal result of eligible service, the veteran wore inappropriate footwear during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

37807 the veteran's wearing of inappropriate footwear on eligible service during weight bearing exercise involving side and site of the body within the seven days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
