Appropriate clinical management of atherosclerotic peripheral vascular disease may involve location of the site of the disease process, identification and minimisation of risk factors such as smoking, hypertension etc, regular and increasing exercise pattern to improve muscle efficiency, meticulous foot-care to avoid injury or infection, observation, and recourse to surgery (angioplasty or by-pass procedures) at the appropriate time.
