- Inability to maintain good foot hygiene
Date amended:
Atherosclerotic peripheral vascular disease - Inability to maintain good foot hygiene Factor
Inability to maintain good foot hygiene
“Inability to maintain good foot hygiene” means being unable to wash either feet or socks regularly or being unable to keep the skin dry. There may be an inability to maintain good foot hygiene if the facilities for, or the opportunity to carry out, washing of the skin and/or clothing are not available eg during active service in jungle conditions. An inability to maintain good skin hygiene may also result from a medical condition such as Alzheimer's disease where a person may be unable to attend to matters of hygiene.
If the inability is due to a combination of both service related and non-service related disabilities then you will need to assess the service related disabilities alone against this SOP requirement. Medical advice may be needed to answer this.
A history of being unable to maintain good foot hygiene may have been recorded if the veteran had been unable to wash either feet or socks regularly for an extended time. It is also possible that a doctor consulted about worsening atherosclerotic peripheral vascular disease may have recorded a history of poor foot hygiene. Generally, however, a history of being unable to maintain good foot hygiene will be dependent on the claimant's statement.

PRELIMINARY QUESTIONS [9251]
9387 there is some evidence that an inability to maintain good foot hygiene may be a factor in the worsening of the condition under consideration.
9330 the veteran was unable to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body at some time.
7334 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.
7335 the condition under consideration permanently worsened.
9332 the veteran has established the causal connection between the inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body and VEA service for the clinical worsening of atherosclerotic peripheral vascular disease.
9334 the veteran has established the causal connection between the inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body and operational service for the clinical worsening of atherosclerotic peripheral vascular disease.
or
9335 the veteran has established the causal connection between the inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body and eligible service for the clinical worsening of atherosclerotic peripheral vascular disease.
CLINICAL WORSENING AND OPERATIONAL SERVICE [9334]
32515 on operational service the veteran was unable to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body.
32516 on operational service, in the course of operational service duties, the veteran was unable to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body.
9337 on operational service, in the course of operational service duties, the veteran was unable to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.
9336 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to the veteran's inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body on operational service duties.
9341 the veteran's inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body, on operational service, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
or
9340 the veteran's inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body was due to an illness or injury which is identifiable.
32517 as a consequence of the identified illness or injury the veteran was unable to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.
9343 the identified illness or injury which caused the veteran's inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body is causally related to operational service.
9345 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of operational service to which the identified illness or injury which caused the veteran's inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body is causally related.
CLINICAL WORSENING AND ELIGIBLE SERVICE [9335]
32518 on eligible service the veteran was unable to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body.
32519 on eligible service, in the course of eligible service duties, the veteran was unable to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body.
9339 on eligible service, as a causal result of eligible service duties, the veteran was unable to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.
9331 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to the veteran's inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body on eligible service duties.
9342 the veteran's inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot on side and site of the body, on eligible service, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
or
9340 the veteran's inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body was due to an illness or injury which is identifiable.
32517 as a consequence of the identified illness or injury the veteran was unable to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.
9344 the identified illness or injury which caused the veteran's inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body is causally related to eligible service.
9346 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of eligible service to which the identified illness or injury which caused the veteran's inability to maintain good foot hygiene of the foot of side and site of the body is causally related.
