Acute Articular Cartilage Tear - Inability to obtain appropriate clinical management for acute articular cartilage tear Factor

In the case of an acute articular cartilage tear, appropriate clinical management may include a range of treatments to repair the articular cartilage.  This may consist of any of the following:

  • Arthroscopic lavage or debridement
  • Marrow Stimulation Techniques
  • Osteochondral autografts (grafts from the patient) and allografts (grafts from a donor)
  • Cell based repairs
  • Autologous mesenchymal stem cell transplant

With any of these type of treatment the period of rehabilitation may be as long at two years to allow full repair due to the slow repair rate of cartilage.
