S 5 Foreign Ships Under British Control
The following is a list of countries which had part of their merchant navies under British control during World War II. Mariners that served on ships under the British control during World War II fulfil the criteria of providing assistance to Australia or to a Commonwealth country or an allied country in accordance with the definition of allied mariner at subsection 5C(1) of the VEA.
The table shows the approximate dates during which the ships came under British control and the manner by which the ships came under British control. As these dates are only approximations, each case of this type should be handled individually and according to the evidence submitted.
