Appropriate clinical management for panic disorder includes:
- psychotherapy – such as behavioural therapy (CBT), to identify what triggers a panic attack, and going through the symptoms of a panic attack in a controlled setting and learning that these symptoms need not develop into a full-blown attack
- medication – anti-anxiety drugs and/or antidepressants such as benzodiazapines. Sometimes even heart medications [such as beta blockers] are used to control irregular heartbeats,
- relaxation techniques,
- support groups.
