3.1.2 Discrepancies in assessment

3.1.2.1Discrepancies may be brought to the examiner's notice by such things as:

  • pensioner initiated reviews (PIRs) - letter, statement or telephone
  • departmentally initiated reviews (DIRs)
  • third party advices
  • denunciations
  • data matching exercises
  • the review of unusual circumstances e.g. whereabouts unknown and suspensions; or
  • departmentally initiated action (DIAs) eg reassessing or examining a case because of some other action may highlight a discrepancy.

These are discussed in the following sections of this chapter.
