Mattresses and beds are not considered as fitting the definition of a rehabilitation aid or appliance under the MRCA or DRCA rehabilitation provisions. Rather, these are regarded as household furniture items.
For this reason, the rehabilitation provisions of the MRCA and DRCA cannot be utilised to provide assistance with the purchase of household furniture items such as beds and mattresses available from general bedding and furniture stores.
The RAP National Schedule of Equipment should therefore be used to assist veterans who require a bed or mattress to meet their clinically assessed needs.
