1.4.6 Processing age pension debts

Where age pension payments are being administered by DVA, any debts incurred by the age pensioner will also be the responsibility of DVA – i.e. DVA will investigate the debt, calculate the amount owing, and undertake recovery action.

DVA officers have been delegated under the SSA and Social Security (Administration) Act 1999 (SSAA) to undertake all activities associated with the administration of age pension payments. This authority includes determining retrospective reassessments, instituting recovery action, endorsing the waiver and write off of debts. These delegations are contained in FaCS Instruments of Delegation, numbers 13, 14 and 15.

The FaCS Instruments of Delegation may be obtained from the DVA delegations page on DiVA.
