Epicondylitis - Activity involving forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm Factor

There is no RMA definition of this SOP factor.

Repetitive and forceful activities that ‘overload’ the tendons and muscles, involve constant grasping, squeezing or gripping by the hand.  These actions can be found in many sporting, domestic and occupational activities.  Common activities are: tennis, golf (swing), use of a screwdriver or hammer, carrying a heavy article (like a suitcase), gardening (pruning, pulling weeds), and washing windows.  Once established the condition may cause even simple grasping and lifting movements to be painful.

Information about the nature and scope of various service occupations is contained in Physical requirements, duties, and workplace hazards of specific military occupations

Seek medical advice if it is unclear whether or not a particular activity is of a type described in the SOP factor.

34354  the veteran has established the causal connection between activities which involve forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm and VEA service for epicondylitis.

34355   the veteran has established the causal connection between activities which involve forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm and VEA service for the clinical onset of epicondylitis.

34357  the veteran has established the causal connection between activities which involve forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm and operational service for the clinical onset of epicondylitis.

or

34358  the veteran has established the causal connection between activities which involve forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm and eligible service for the clinical onset of epicondylitis.

or

7334     the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.

7335     the condition under consideration permanently worsened.

34356   the veteran has established the causal connection between activities which involve forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm and VEA service for the clinical worsening of epicondylitis.

34359  the veteran has established the causal connection between activities which involve forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm and operational service for the clinical worsening of epicondylitis.

34363 the veteran performed an activity which involves forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm on the affected side for at least one hour per day on more days than not over a period of at least one month immediately before the clinical onset of epicondylitis.

34367 operational service made a material contribution to the veteran's performance of an activity which involves forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm on the affected side for at least one hour per day on more days than not over a period of at least one month immediately before the clinical onset of epicondylitis.

Clinical onset and eligible service [34358]

34362 the veteran has performed an activity which involves forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm on the affected side for at least one hour per day on more days than not over a period of at least three months.

34365 the veteran performed an activity which involves forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm on the affected side for at least one hour per day on more days than not over a period of at least three months immediately before the clinical onset of epicondylitis.

34369 eligible service made a material contribution to the veteran's performance of an activity which involves forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm on the affected side for at least one hour per day on more days than not over a period of at least three months immediately before the clinical onset of epicondylitis.

Clinical worsening and operational service [34359]

34361 the veteran has performed an activity which involves forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm on the affected side for at least one hour per day on more days than not over a period of at least one month.

34364 the veteran performed an activity which involves forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm on the affected side for at least one hour per day on more days than not over a period of at least one month immediately before the clinical worsening of epicondylitis.

34368 operational service made a material contribution to the veteran's performance of an activity which involves forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm on the affected side for at least one hour per day on more days than not over a period of at least one month immediately before the clinical worsening of epicondylitis.

34371 the clinical onset of epicondylitis occurred before the period of at least one month during which the veteran performed activities which involved forceful and repetitive movements of the hand or forearm on the affected side for at least one hour per day on more days than not.
