DEFENCE COMPENSATION ADVICE - NO 15
">Commonwealth Employees Rehabilitation And Compensation Act 1988
">REFERRAL OF HEARING LOSS CLAIMS TO NAL
">1. In accordance with Department of Community Services and Health policy, the National Acoustics Laboratories (NAL) are introducing charges for services for compensation cases from 1 January 1990.
2. Attached is a copy of NAL's letter outlining their services and `Schedule of Charges'.
3. The following is a summary of the proposed procedures:
a). Claim to be fully investigated.
b). Preliminary Hearing Level Assessment form to be sent to the claimant.
c). Claimant to arrange an appointment with NAL.
d). NAL to assess claimant and determine whether a full assessment is required. (Full assessment will only proceed if the hearing loss is greater than 15%)
e). NAL to provide the Compensation Section with the assessment and account.
f). Should full assessment be required, NAL will arrange with the claimant an appointment time and date approximately 2 months after the preliminary assessment.
g). NAL to provide the Compensation Sections with the appointment details.
h). Compensation Sections to arrange NEL interview. (In view of the nature of the impairment, I am investigating the possibility of NAL interviewing the claimant for the NEL)
i). File papers to be forwarded to NAL for full assessment.
j). NAL to return file papers and account for our further consideration.
4. Your comments on the proposed procedures is to be telephoned to this office by c.o.b. 12 December 1989.
