'Relevant period' means:

“... 2 weeks before the date of injury during which the employee was continuously employed by the Commonwealth ...”  [section 9 (1)]

Where an employee's salary has no overtime or allowance components, the relevant period is 2 weeks prior to the date of injury.

The NWE figure is obtained by dividing the total amount earned by the employee in this 2 weeks in half.

Example

An employee is injured on 30/10/1996.  He receives no allowances or overtime payments.

The salary he earned in the two weeks prior to the date of injury was $1,200.

$1,200 ÷ 2 = $600

The employee's NWE is $600.
