VEA ?

A Veteran is a person (or deceased person) who has:

  • rendered eligible war service, or
  • is a member of the defence forces who on or after 31 July 1962 was outside Australia, but not on operational service, who was killed or injured by the action of hostile forces.     More ?
Extended definition for service pension purposes

For the purposes of service pension eligibility the term Veteran also means a person who is:

  • a commonwealth veteran; or
  • an allied veteran or
  • an allied mariner.


Member of the Defence Force includes a person appointed for continuous full-time service with a unit of the Defence Force (body, contingent or detachment of the Defence Force).
