Most contributors are required to undergo medical examinations before or shortly after commencing employment with the Commonwealth.  This is a condition of service and identifies whether the employee has any pre-existing medical conditions.

Both CSS and PSS schemes make allowances for such medical conditions.  Where an employee is later retired from work as a result of the pre-existing condition, there are restrictions to what is then paid to that employee.

However, the benefit structures of the two schemes are significantly different.
