The SRC Act is a far more practical scheme, providing compensation benefits for employees should they become injured or ill at work, on their way to or from work, during their lunch break, or as a result of some other activity reasonably incidental to their work.

As part of a more appropriate way of managing claims, the formal introduction of rehabilitation into the 1988 Act has meant that the overall wellbeing of the employee is now paramount to the workers' compensation process.

In addition, incapacity benefits are now based on an employee's normal earnings.  During the first 45 weeks of incapacity, employees are entitled to payment of what they would normally expect to earn.
