The percentage impairment provided by the doctor on the Compensation Claim for Permanent Injury is an indicative figure only.  In most cases, further investigation will show that this figure will alter.

Most treating doctors are unaware of the 'whole person' concept and guidelines Comcare uses to determine an accurate impairment percentage.

However, it is a useful starting point to the investigation process and is an effective screening process to establish a claim as permanent.  It will ensure that the cost of unnecessary investigation is avoided.

Use the figure provided by the doctor in conjunction with other information on the form, to decide whether to proceed with a specialist/Australian Government Health Services (AGHS) examination to determine the employee's PI entitlement.
