Rule 6:
-
Occurrences involving sound, chemicals or substances where damage was the result of more than a single exposure to the same hazard (eg hearing loss resulting from years of exposure to noise), should be coded as relating to repeated exposure and not a single event.
Rule 7:
-
For repetitive strain injury claims coded as per rule 2 (as code 03330), the Mechanism code should be 44 ('Repetitive movement, low muscle loading').
Rule 8:
-
Use of the category 'fall, trip or slip' includes what happens immediately following the fall, trip or slip where it is the direct cause of the most serious injury (eg broken leg as a direct result of a fall).
However, if the most serious injury suffered is not the direct result of the fall, trip or slip, use the appropriate Mechanism that is responsible for the injury.
|
Example |
|
An employee trips over and falls in front of a motor vehicle. The motor vehicle strikes the employee's leg and breaks it. |
|
The Mechanism of injury is not the fall, but the action of being struck by a vehicle. |
Rule 9:
-
Where a vehicle accident was the direct cause of an injury, code 92 ('Vehicle accident') should be used (ie where the employee was inside the vehicle). However, if the injury was sustained as a result of being struck by a vehicle, code 28 ('Being hit by moving objects') should be used as the Mechanism.
Rule 10:
-
Where there has been a slide or a cave-in, code 91 ('Slide or cave in') should be used.
