In accordance with 2.5 above, certain advice must be provided to a claimant where information is being requested. The following is a broad example of the sought of advice that should be given:
"This information is required in order to assist this Office in the management of your compensation claim, and will only be used in relation to your claim. It may be necessary to release this information to your employer or to a medical practitioner, including your treating doctors, rehabilitation providers or other health care workers, or to the Retirement Benefits Office".
However, it is important to make the advice as specific as possible in addressing what the requested information is to be used for and who it is likely to be released to. In particular, the Privacy Commissioner has requested that if Comcare Australia requests information that is likely to be used in the Rehabilitation Program then this should be stated in the advice.
