It is vital that employers be aware of, and alerted to, the rehabilitation requirements of a claim. It is usually apparent as soon as an injury or illness has occurred whether rehabilitation is required.
As a result, the employer can commence rehabilitation even before a claim is lodged with Comcare.
However, if liability for the claim is denied by Comcare then the employer is liable for any costs incurred. This means some employers will not authorise rehabilitation expenditure unless Comcare has determined liability. The onus is therefore on Comcare to make fast and equitable decisions on claims.
