MRCA bereavement payment procedures

The Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004 (MRCA) bereavement payment to dependants is equal to 12 weekly instalments of the deceased client's payments that they received, or were entitled to receive, the week before the week in which they died for the following benefits:

  • weekly permanent impairment (PI) payments
  • weekly incapacity payments
  • Special Rate Disability Pension (SRDP).

The payment cannot me made in the following circumstances:

Section 80 - Additional compensation payment

If a client has been assessed at 80 impairment points or more, they may be eligible for an additional lump sum payment for each eligible young person (EYP) which is determined as part of the MRCA permanent impairment process. This compensation payment is provided under section 80 of MRCA.

The additional compensation payment must not be referred to as an eligible young person payment as this term is used when determining death compensation claims. The additional compensation payment is also not a payment to the eligible young person, rather the MRCA PI claimant.
