The provision of alterations, modifications, aids and appliances are covered under:

A VVRS approved rehabilitation program may include the provision of work related aids, appliances and workplace alterations. This is explained in Section 1.3.3 of the VVRS Instrument.

The following table outlines the responsibilities for providing supports and services for serving members who have not been identified as ‘likely to separate from the Australian Defence Force (ADF) for medical reasons" or who have not reached the point of separation from the ADF. These responsibilities are supported by the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between DVA and Defence and the relevant legislation.

The intention behind providing aids and appliances, modifications to vehicles and modifications/alterations to a person’s residence, workplace or educational setting is to enable a person to:

• be as independent as possible;

• effectively manage the impact of their accepted conditions; and

• improve their quality of life.

  This chapter explains how requests for alterations, modifications, aids and appliances are managed and processed.
