Interpreting Defence service record

In this chapter you will find:

  • Information about the different components of Defence service details.
  • Examples of where to locate the information required on Defence service details.

A Defence service record provides a documentary history of the client’s activities and accomplishments while serving as a member of the Australian Defence Force (ADF). The document is normally electronic, but may be handwritten if the period of service pre-dates the use of computers.

Requesting information from Defence

Delegates can initiate a request for Defence-held service and health records via the following pathways:

  • Defence Data Electronic Information Exchange (DDEIE)
  • Request Management System (RMS).

DDEIE and RMS requests are lodged via Process Direct Request Management System (PD RMS).

Defence Data Electronic Information Exchange (DDEIE)

DDEIE allows for real-time data to be exchanged for certain records.
