IMPORTANT OPERATIONAL FEATURES

Otitis media

New  – 01 & 02 of '03

  • This new SOP covers all forms of inflammation of the middle ear.  There are no particular noteworthy features.

Allergic rhinitis

Revocation – 03 & 04 of '03

Replaces 65 and 66 of '95

  • The definition has been reworked, but this has no operational effect.
  • Previously included worsening factors, covering being immuno-compromised, drugs and hypothyroidism, have been removed.  These factors promoted non-allergic rhinitis (non-SOP), so it was not appropriate to retain them in the allergic rhinitis SOP.
  • The allergen exposure factors and accompanying definition now require identification of a specific causative allergen.  The old “immediately before” requirement has become “within the 24 hours before”.
