IMPORTANT OPERATIONAL FEATURES

Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Revocation –  13 & 14 of '01

Replaces  45 & 46 of '96 as amended by 1 & 2 of '98

  • Factors (a) and (b) show changes similar to those recently made to the tinnitus SOPs.  However, for both the impulsive noise factor (a) and the cumulative noise factor (b), the noise exposure can be any time before the clinical onset, rather than immediately before, as required by the tinnitus SOPs.

[NOTE:  the entitlement/assessment problems stemming from the noise factors in the new tinnitus SOPs are recognised and possible solutions are being explored.]

  • The list associated with the drugs factor has been reorganised to list specific drugs, rather than classes of drugs, and is now in alphabetical order.

Dengue Fever

Revocation – 15 & 16 of '01

Replaces 139 & 140 of '95

  • The definition of “dengue fever” has been changed to specifically mention dengue haemorrhagic fever, which has also been defined.
  • The time period for exposure to dengue viruses in factor (a) has been extended to 14 days.
  • There is a new causal factor in both RH & BOP SOPs which applies for dengue haemorrhagic fever only.  This requires exposure to dengue viruses types 1,2,3, or 4 within the 20 years before the clinical onset of dengue fever.
