Value of forename
The Data Matching Agency utilises a name reference database that will enable the comparison of given names that are similar or alternatives of one another. For example, the name Bill will positively match with William. The term value of forename refers to comparison using this facility.
Section 4 in the Data Matching Program (Assistance and Tax) Act 1990 provides for the establishment of a Data Matching Agency (DMA) that is staffed by officers from Centrelink , but is independent from it for the duration of the data matching cycle. Officers working for the DMA are responsible for:
- receiving data from those government agencies that are included in the Data Matching Program ( DMA )
- matching that data,
- returning information on discrepant cases identified, and
- destruction of non-discrepant data at the end of the matching cycle.
Under the Data Matching Program (Assistance and Tax) Act 1990, identity and income data from designated agencies will be transferred to the DMA. A series of validation and matching exercises using this data will be undertaken in accordance with the Data Matching Program (Assistance and Tax) Act 1990.
