IMPORTANT OPERATIONAL FEATURES

Myelodysplastic disorder

New  – 15 & 16 of '00

  • This SOP covers an uncommon group of disorders of blood cell production (the refractory anaemias).
  • It includes a new style benzene factor and definition, without a requirement for occupational exposure.  The RMA wants to avoid factors with such a requirement, as it is the level of exposure, not the setting, that is important.
  • The only other causal factor is for certain chemotherapy drugs.

Malignant neoplasm of the bile duct

Revocation – 17 & 18 of '00

Replaces 34 and 35 of '99

  • Cirrhosis of the liver has been added as a causal factor.
  • The only other changes are to include ICD 10 codes and delete the definition of ulcerative colitis.

Chloracne

Revocation – 19 & 20 of '00

Replaces 69 and 70 of '94

And 279 and 280 of '95

  • The “being exposed to herbicides in Vietnam” factor has been removed, in keeping with the RMA's objective of avoiding SOP factors that relate to classes of veterans.
  • The factor is effectively replaced by one requiring exposure to any of a specific group of chemicals, in any setting or location.  CCPS commentary will provide advice on circumstances in which exposure to these chemicals could occur.
