NOTEWORTHY FEATURES

Psoriasis

Revocation – 31 & 32 of '12

Replaces 56 and 57 of '02

  • The definition has been changed and is more descriptive, but SOP coverage is unchanged.
  • There are new RH and BOP factors for smoking and being overweight and a new RH only factor for passive smoking (all for both onset and worsening).
  • Previous factors for having an anxiety or depressive disorder have been removed.
  • The factors for alcohol consumption no longer require alcohol dependence or abuse, but retain an average weekly consumption requirement.
  • Other previous factors have been retained but updated, with some reorganisation of the factors relating to drugs.

Tinnitus

Revocation – 33 & 34 of '12

Replaces 25 and 26 of '01

  • A number of existing factors have been updated to match up with corresponding factors in the sensorineural hearing loss SOPs.
  • The are new onset and worsening factors for: specified disorders of the auditory apparatus or auditory neural pathways, including a range of autoimmune disorders; 'acoustic shock'; specified infections; ionising/therapeutic radiation; elevated serum cobalt (most likely from hip replacement with a faulty prosthesis); vitamin B1 or B12 deficiency; carbon monoxide poisoning (all RH & BOP); and hypothyroidism (RH only).

Otitic barotrauma

Revocation – 35 & 36 of '12

Replaces 27 and 28 of '01

  • There is a reworked definition with a description of the clinical features and alternative names, but SOP coverage is unchanged.
  • There are new RH and BOP factors for: exposure to a blast; undergoing mechanical ventilation; breathing 100% oxygen; and eustachian tube dysfunction (all onset and worsening).

Carotid arterial disease

Revocation – 37 & 38 of '12

Replaces 9 and 10 of '03

as amended by 29 and 30 of '03

  • Part (i) of the definition, concerning occlusion or stenosis, now stipulates that there must be a requirement for treatment.
  • There are new RH only factors for passive smoking; periodontitis; and exposure to arsenic.  There are new RH and BOP factors for: ionising radiation; chronic renal disease; therapy with BCG vaccine; neoplastic infiltration of the affected artery and a range or hereditary disorders.
