10.7.10 Medical Grade Footwear
Requests for medical grade or specialist footwear cannot be provided through the rehabilitation provisions.
Medical grade footwear
Medical grade footwear may be made available to a veteran that has been clinically assessed as having a deformity or abnormality of either or both the foot or the ankle.
Medical grade footwear includes ready-made extra depth and/or width footwear and custom-made footwear manufactured by a contracted supplier to fit a client's individual foot and/or ankle structure. For more information, see the Medical Grade Footwear page on the DVA website.
RAP
RAP may be able to assist with medical footwear items that are required on a temporary basis to heal a particular issue, such as orthoses or a medical/post-operative shoe/boot. For more information, see the RAP Schedule's category: 'Footwear not obtained through Medical Grade Footwear Program.'
