Aspirin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug which is often taken for 'flu, headache and other ill-defined ailments.  It is taken to relieve pain and inflammation and to reduce fever.  In addition to its use as a simple short-term analgesic or for reducing a fever, aspirin was also prescribed in regular and large doses for such conditions as rheumatic fever and rheumatoid arthritis.  It may also be taken to prevent vascular events such as heart attack and stroke.

Products containing aspirin can be obtained without prescription in the form of tablets, soluble tablets, powders and capsules.  Some common products containing aspirin are Aspro, Astrix, Bayer Aspirin, Bex, Bufferin, Codis, Codral Forte, Disprin, Ecotrin, Percodan, Solcode, Solprin, Spren, SRA, Vincent's Powders and Winsprin Capsules.
