Intraocular surgery or penetrating keratoplasty

Open-angle glaucoma - Intraocular surgery or penetrating keratoplasty Factor

Intraocular surgery

Intraocular surgery includes any surgery that involves penetration of the eyeball. The most common example would be intraocular lens implant (IOL) surgery which is the standard treatment for cataracts.  Pterygium surgery is not intraocular surgery as it is limited to the surface of the eye.  Intraocular surgery is a major procedure that would be documented in medical records.

Penetrating keratoplasty

The RMA states that penetrating keratoplasty ‘means a surgical procedure in which the entire thickness of the cornea is removed and replaced by donor tissue’. This is a transplant of a section of full-thickness cornea.  Corneal transplant is a major procedure that would be documented in the medical records.
