Drug treatment associated with depressive symptoms
Depressive disorder - Drug treatment associated with depressive symptoms Factor
As a cause of depressive disorder, this SOP factor applies only for substance-induced mood disorder with depressive features. As an aggravating factor, it applies to all types of depressive disorder. The factor is for drugs that are not known causes of depression, but can cause depression in the individual. Thus there are no examples that can be given.
To apply this factor the history in a particular case would have to match the template as specified in the words of the factor, and the psychiatrist would need to attribute the diagnosis to a specific drug.
The SOP factor requires:
being treated with a drug which is associated in the individual with the development of depressive symptoms during drug therapy, and the cessation or significant reduction of the depressive symptoms within days or weeks of discontinuing drug therapy, where treatment with the drug continued for at least the two days before the clinical onset/worsening of depressive disorder.

Preliminary questions [39693]
39700 there is some evidence that being treated with a drug which was associated in the veteran with depressive symptoms may be a factor in the development or worsening of the condition under consideration.
39709 the veteran has established the causal connection between drug treatment associated with depressive symptoms and VEA service for depressive disorder.
39677 the condition under consideration is substance-induced mood disorder with depressive features.
39707 the veteran was treated with a drug which was associated with depressive symptoms as specified in the Statement of Principles for depressive disorder where that treatment continued for at least the two days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.
39710 the veteran has established the causal connection between drug treatment associated with depressive symptoms and VEA service for the clinical onset of depressive disorder.
39712 the veteran has established the causal connection between drug treatment associated with depressive symptoms and operational service for the clinical onset of depressive disorder.
or
39713 the veteran has established the causal connection between drug treatment associated with depressive symptoms and eligible service for the clinical onset of depressive disorder.
or
7334 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.
7335 the condition under consideration permanently worsened.
39708 the veteran was treated with a drug which was associated with depressive symptoms as specified in the Statement of Principles for depressive disorder where that treatment continued for at least the two days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.
39711 the veteran has established the causal connection between drug treatment associated with depressive symptoms and VEA service for the clinical worsening of depressive disorder.
39714 the veteran has established the causal connection between drug treatment associated with depressive symptoms and operational service for the clinical worsening of depressive disorder.
or
39715 the veteran has established the causal connection between drug treatment associated with depressive symptoms and eligible service for the clinical worsening of depressive disorder.
Clinical onset and operational service [39712]
39716 the drug treatment that continued for at least the two days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration and which was associated with depressive symptoms as specified in the Statement of Principles for depressive disorder, was caused by operational service.
39720 the drug treatment that continued for at least the two days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration and which was associated with depressive symptoms as specified in the Statement of Principles for depressive disorder, and was caused by operational service, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
Clinical onset and eligible service [39713]
39717 the drug treatment that continued for at least the two days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration and which was associated with depressive symptoms as specified in the Statement of Principles for depressive disorder, was caused by eligible service.
39721 the drug treatment that continued for at least the two days before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration and which was associated with depressive symptoms as specified in the Statement of Principles for depressive disorder, and was caused by eligible service, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
Clinical worsening and operational service [39714]
39718 the drug treatment that continued for at least the two days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration and which was associated with depressive symptoms as specified in the Statement of Principles for depressive disorder, was caused by operational service.
39722 the drug treatment that continued for at least the two days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration and which was associated with depressive symptoms as specified in the Statement of Principles for depressive disorder, and was caused by operational service, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
Clinical worsening and eligible service [39715]
39719 the drug treatment that continued for at least the two days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration and which was associated with depressive symptoms as specified in the Statement of Principles for depressive disorder, was caused by eligible service.
39723 the drug treatment that continued for at least the two days before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration and which was associated with depressive symptoms as specified in the Statement of Principles for depressive disorder, and was caused by eligible service, was due to the veteran's serious default, wilful act or serious breach of discipline.
