Carrying or lifting loads

Intervertebral disc prolapse - Carrying or lifting loads Factor

This Statement of Principle (SOP) factor covers repeated lifting and carrying of loads of at least 10kg within specified time periods to a cumulative total Load-Factor of at least 150,000 (RH) or 300,000 (BOP).  The cumulative total Load-Factor must be calculated using the formula provided in the RMA definition:

Load factor means W² x T, where:

  • W is the weight of the load lifted or carried in kilograms;  and,
  • T is the time the load was lifted or carried in hours.

Carrying includes carrying a pack and webbing and other equipment on the body.

Itemised list of pack weights and Physical requirements, duties, and workplace hazards of specific military occupations contain useful information that may assist calculate the Load-Factor.
