Intracranial surgery
Intracerebral haemorrhage - Intracranial surgery Factor
Definition and general information
This term has not been defined by the RMA. Applying a dictionary definition, it means any surgical procedure within the cranium, ie the skeleton of the head excluding the mandible (lower jaw) and facial bones. Intracranial surgery would be performed for illnesses such as tumour or haemorrhage (including trauma).
Establishing a history of intracranial surgery
If a veteran or member had undergone such surgery, this would have been recorded in doctors' notes and/or hospital records. However, these records may have been destroyed or can no longer be obtained. Therefore, if there is a reliable history of appropriate medical treatment at a particular time, this generally will be accepted, unless there is contradictory evidence. Seek medical advice if it is unclear whether the claimed surgery was intracranial surgery.
