A specified dental condition
Sinusitis - A specified dental condition Factor
The RMA has defined a specified dental condition as one of the following conditions:
periapical abscess – this is a collection of infected material (pus) resulting from bacterial infection of the centre (pulp) of a tooth.
periapical granuloma – this is a foci of chronic inflammation around the apex of a tooth. It is a direct sequela of inflammation of the pulp which has extended into the surrounding periapical tissue.
infected dental (apical or dentigerous) cyst – a periapical cyst forms at the apex of a non-vital tooth and is a sequela of inflammation of the pulp. A dentigerous cyst forms around the crown of an unerupted tooth.
oro-antral fistula – this is an abnormal passage between the mouth and the sinus cavity. A tooth extraction can lead to an oro-antral fistula.
non-vital tooth – this is a tooth where the pulp is dead or infected.
periodontal disease – this is the inflammation or degeneration of tissues that surround and support the teeth. Periodontal disease most commonly begins as gingivitis and progresses to periodontitis.

PRELIMINARY QUESTIONS [13838]
13839 there is some evidence that a specified dental condition may be a factor in the development or worsening of the condition under consideration.
13840 the veteran is suffering from chronic sinusitis affecting the maxillary sinus.
13819 the veteran has suffered from a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus at some time.
13820 a specified dental condition means one of the following conditions : periapical abscess, periapical granuloma, infected dental (apical or dentigerous) cyst, oro-antral fistula, non-vital tooth or periodontal disease.
13845 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, and VEA service for chronic sinusitis.
13971 the veteran was suffering from the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, at the time of the clinical onset of chronic sinusitis.
13846 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, and VEA service for the clinical onset of chronic sinusitis.
13848 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, and operational service for the clinical onset of chronic sinusitis.
or
13849 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, and eligible service for the clinical onset of chronic sinusitis.
or
7334 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.
7335 the condition under consideration permanently worsened.
13972 the veteran was suffering from the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, at the time of the clinical worsening of chronic sinusitis.
13847 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, and VEA service for the clinical worsening of chronic sinusitis.
13850 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, and operational service for the clinical worsening of chronic sinusitis.
or
13851 the veteran has established the causal connection between the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, and eligible service for the clinical worsening of chronic sinusitis.
CLINICAL ONSET AND OPERATIONAL SERVICE [13848]
13973 the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, is causally related to operational service.
CLINICAL ONSET AND ELIGIBLE SERVICE [13849]
13974 the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, is causally related to eligible service.
CLINICAL WORSENING AND OPERATIONAL SERVICE [13850]
13973 the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, is causally related to operational service.
13821 the clinical onset of chronic sinusitis occurred prior to that part of operational service to which the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, is causally related.
CLINICAL WORSENING AND ELIGIBLE SERVICE [13851]
13974 the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, is causally related to eligible service.
13822 the clinical onset of chronic sinusitis occurred prior to that part of eligible service to which the identified illness or injury, a specified dental condition affecting the tissues adjacent to the affected maxillary sinus, is causally related.
