Regularly using the upper limbs for transfer

Rotator Cuff Syndrome - Regularly using the upper limbs for transfer Factor

RMA definition

The RMA defines this term to mean 'the use by a person of their upper limbs to transfer themselves (for example, from chair to bed), due to their inability to use their lower limbs for mobilisation (for example, paraplegia).  It does not mean the temporary use of a wheelchair, such as when recovering from a fracture or a sprain involving a lower limb.'

Additional information

If a person was unable to use their legs for mobilisation as described above (and consequently had to use their arms to transfer themselves), doctor's notes and/or hospital records would contain ample reference to this serious state as well as identifying the disease or injury responsible for the loss of lower limb function.

Preliminary questions [24810]

24811 there is some evidence that regular use of the upper limbs for transfer may be a factor in the development or worsening of the condition under consideration.

24812 the veteran has regularly used the upper limbs for transfer for a continuous period of at least one year at some time.

24822 the regular use of the upper limbs for transfer for a continuous period of at least one year was materially contributed to by an illness or injury which is identifiable.

24813  the veteran has established the causal connection between regular use of the upper limbs for transfer and VEA service for rotator cuff syndrome.

24820 the identified illness or injury made a material contribution to the veteran's regular use of the upper limbs for transfer for a continuous period of at least the one year before the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

24814   the veteran has established the causal connection between regular use of the upper limbs for transfer and VEA service for the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome.

24816  the veteran has established the causal connection between regular use of the upper limbs for transfer and operational service for the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome.

or

24817  the veteran has established the causal connection between regular use of the upper limbs for transfer and eligible service for the clinical onset of rotator cuff syndrome.

or

7334     the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred after the end of the veteran's last period of VEA service.

7335     the condition under consideration permanently worsened.

24821 the identified illness or injury made a material contribution to the veteran's regular use of the upper limbs for transfer for a continuous period of at least the one year before the clinical worsening of the condition under consideration.

24815   the veteran has established the causal connection between regular use of the upper limbs for transfer and VEA service for the clinical worsening of rotator cuff syndrome.

24818  the veteran has established the causal connection between regular use of the upper limbs for transfer and operational service for the clinical worsening of rotator cuff syndrome.

or

24819  the veteran has established the causal connection between regular use of the upper limbs for transfer and eligible service for the clinical worsening of rotator cuff syndrome.

Clinical onset and operational service [24816]

24825  the identified illness or injury, which materially contributed to the veteran's regular use of the upper limbs for transfer for a continuous period of at least one year, is causally related to operational service.

Clinical onset and eligible service [24817]

24826  the identified illness or injury, which materially contributed to the veteran's regular use of the upper limbs for transfer for a continuous period of at least one year, is causally related to eligible service.

Clinical worsening and operational service [24818]

24858 the continuous period of at least one year, during which the veteran regularly used the upper limbs for transfer, commenced after the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

24825  the identified illness or injury, which materially contributed to the veteran's regular use of the upper limbs for transfer for a continuous period of at least one year, is causally related to operational service.

34232 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of operational service to which the identified illness or injury, which materially contributed to the veteran's regular use of the upper limbs for transfer for a continuous period of at least one year, is causally related.

Clinical worsening and eligible service [24819]

24858 the continuous period of at least one year, during which the veteran regularly used the upper limbs for transfer, commenced after the clinical onset of the condition under consideration.

24826  the identified illness or injury, which materially contributed to the veteran's regular use of the upper limbs for transfer for a continuous period of at least one year, is causally related to eligible service.

34233 the clinical onset of the condition under consideration occurred prior to that part of eligible service to which the identified illness or injury, which materially contributed to the veteran's regular use of the upper limbs for transfer for a continuous period of at least one year, is causally related.
